Doctoral Open Days at the British Library

The British Library is hosting a series of open days that are aimed at first year PhD students. Each one will introduce you to the library and its services by focusing on one aspect of the collections.Courses available are

Asian & African Collections – 18 January 2016 
News & Media – 25 January 2016 
Pre 1600 Collections – 01 February 2016 
Music – 05 February 2016 
Social Sciences – 12 February 2016 
17th & 18th Century Collections – 19 February 2016 
19th Century Collections – 22 February 2016 
20th & 21st Century Collections – 26 February 2016 -

British Library - Doctoral Open Days for PhD students

The British Library is a hub for research, with vast and varied collections, expert staff and a wide range of events. Our Doctoral Open Days are a chance for new PhD students to discover the Library’s unique research materials. Students will learn about our collections, find out how to access them, and meet our expert staff and other researchers in their field. These events are aimed at PhD students who are new to the Library. The following events are now open to book:

13 January – Environmental Science
17 January - Digital Research
20 January - History 1
31 January - History 2
3 February - English 1
14 February - English 2
24 February – Media, Cultural Studies and Journalism

All events take place in the British Library Conference Centre, London and cost £5. Lunch and refreshments are provided. We recommend that to make the most of the day attendees get a free Reader Pass before the event. A small number of £20 travel bursaries are available for each event to students coming from outside Greater London.

Doctoral Open Days at the British Library

The British Library are running Doctoral Open Days from November to February. The events are free and may be useful if you have just started your PhD and would like to find out more about the research materials available at the British Library. At each event you will learn about the collections, find out how to access them and meet the British Library's expert staff.

Different subjects are covered on different days and include Music, English and Drama (19th to 20th Century & Pre 1900), History and Art and Design. For more information about dates and how to book take a look a the British Library's website.

Etheses Session for new PhD Students



The University Library has arranged a further session for newly-registered research students on copyright clearance and the avoidance of unfair means. It’s compulsory for all research students to attend one of these sessions and further information can be found on the use of copyright material website.

This repeat session will be held on Thursday 11 March from 10-11am in the North Campus Graduate Research Centre seminar room. There’s no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.
